Hill-Rom continues to expand its role as a leading global medical technology provider. ARIAD, TAKEDA — In a move approved by both companies’ boards of directors, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. (Takeda) has agreed to purchase all of the remaining shares of ARIAD Pharmaceuticals (ARIAD) at a cost of $24 per share. The deal totals approximately $5.2 Billion, or nearly 75% of ARIAD’s closing value at the beginning of January. The deal allows ARIAD’s team to focus on its research into drugs for rare forms of cancer, while allowing Takeda to expand on an already impressive array of hematology and pharmaceutical research. IN THE NEWS ENVISION, SUNSHINE — Envision Healthcare of Greenwood Village, Colo., recently announced the acquisition of Sunshine Radiology, LLC of Winter Haven, Fla. Sunshine Radiology, LLC employs 35 board-certified physicians that serve Florida’s Adventist Health System, specifically the Tampa Bay and Sebring, Fla. areas. With the acquisition of Sunshine Radiology, Envision Healthcare now provides radiologic physicians to more than 55 hospitals across Florida. Envision president of Physician Services Robert J. Coward believes that the move will allow Envision to remain a trusted partner to local healthcare systems. HILL-ROM, MORTARA — Hill-Rom Holdings Inc., known colloquially as Hill-Rom, is set to acquire Mortara Instruments Inc. (known as Mortara) in a deal valued at just over $330 million. In addition to a $40 million tax benefit, the merger will also allow Hill-Rom to leverage Mortara’s full ON THE MOVE ASCENSION HEALTHCARE — St. Louis based Ascension Healthcare CEO Robert J. Henkel is retiring, effective June 30, ending a five-year stint as leader. Mr. Henkel’s roles will be filled by Patricia A. Maryland, current president of healthcare operations and COO of Ascension Healthcare. ANNIE PENN HOSPITAL — Greensboro, N.C.-based Women’s Hospital President Cindy Farrand, MBA, MSPH will become the new president of Reidsville, N.C.-based Annie Penn Hospital, while Annie Penn Hospital president Debbie Green Cunningham, DNP, MSN, RN, will become the new president of Women’s Hospital. The switch was engineered by parent company Cone Health. ST. LAWRENCE HEALTH SYSTEM — Potsdam, N.Y.-based St. Lawrence Health System named David Bender  CEO of Gouverneur (N.Y.) Hospital. Mr. Bender also serves as a VP of Strategic Planning and Business Development for St. Lawrence Health System. No word as to whether he will retain these roles in addition to his new post as CEO. ST. FRANCIS MEDICAL CENTER — Derek Drake, DNP, RN, has been named chief nursing officer) of St. Francis Medical Center of Lynwood, Calif. Previously, Drake served in a variety of nursing roles for Renown Health in Reno, Nev., including assignments to nursing leadership roles at Renown’s Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center.
