Job Description: Tenure-Track Assistant Professor – Clinical Chemistry Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, College of Health Sciences The University of Delaware Newark, Delaware   We are seeking applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor Clinical Chemistry to begin Fall 2017. The successful candidate will have an earned doctoral degree, such as a Ph.D. in clinical chemistry or related biomedical science, relevant postdoctoral experience and documented productivity. Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching clinical chemistry courses, lecture and lab. Other teaching responsibilities include courses as needed in departmental undergraduate and/or graduate core curricula. The individual will be expected to develop and maintain an active, funded program of research, and participate in committee service within the university and profession. Active participation in the mentoring of undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. students is required. We seek a candidate who will complement our current strengths in research and teaching. Undergraduate teaching experience, especially in Clinical Chemistry, is desirable. Practical experience in the field of Clinical Chemistry and national certification (ASCP, NACB, ABCC) is strongly encouraged. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is the only Level IV NICU in the state of Delaware and surrounding 4-state suburban region. Our team of BC/BE Neonatologists and NNPs provide state-of-the-art care throughout the spectrum of neonatal medical and surgical critical care, including all forms of advanced respiratory support and ECMO, in an family-centered, single-patient room environment. Multidisciplinary clinical programs in neonatal skeletal dysplasia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and neonatal pulmonary hypertension draw referrals from throughout the region and across the country. With an active critical care neonatal/pediatric transport team and telemedicine program, the neonatal division provides critical care consultation and intervention from the moment a sick neonate is born at a referring hospital and throughout interfacility transport. The Division of Neonatology also provides clinical coverage at our local partner Level II delivery hospital. Occasional, as-needed outreach support for infant stabilization may be provided at partner facilities in the region. Reviews and provides general care items involved in neonatal care, such as thermoregulation, hyperalimentation therapy, feeding management and phototherapy. h. Participates in daily rounds in NICU. i. Collaborates with multidisciplinary health care team in coordinating inpatient and follow-up care. j. Facilitates the transfer of patients to/from other hospitals, and participates as the clinical team lead during interfacility neonatal critical care transport. B. Verifies That the Quality of Care Is Documented in the Medical Records 1. Elicits, records and interprets the past medical, psychosocial and obstetrical history of the neonate's family. 2. Documents total plan for delivery of care. Writes orders for accomplishing that plan and implements the plan personally or through collaboration with medical and nursing staffs. 3. Evaluates and revises plan of care on an ongoing basis, and reviews revisions with Neonatologist. 4. Assists with discharge planning/teaching. C. Participates in Scholarly Activities 1.  Disseminates nursing research findings and incorporates these findings into nursing practices for patient care within the NICU; participates in research endeavors and program development. 2.  Identifies educational needs of nursing staff regarding the care of patients in the NICU. Serves as an educational resource for unit and the organization. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Required 1. Current Registered Nurse license in state(s) of practice. 2. Functions in the role of the Incident Commander during a Code Delta until relieved by the Administrator-on-Call. Manages and resolves all patient care issues in the absence of the Chief Nurse Executive/designee. Identifies problems, gathers sufficient data, analyzes data and determines strategies to utilize for problem resolution. Contributes appropriately to quality improvement activities. Evaluates outcome of problem resolution to determine effectiveness. Supports development of staff by encouraging participation in educational programs. Identifies individual and unit educational needs for a specific shift on weekends and communicates to Nurse Managers/designee on Nursing Staff Development. Communicates staff deficiencies to the unit Nurse Manager. Provides periodic evaluation of staff to the unit Nurse Manager. Provides constructive guidance to staff for development of clinical expertise. Counsels employees in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with ancillary departmental staff. Establishes a positive work environment to achieve optimal patient care. Demonstrates effective and professional written and oral communication skills. Conveys unit information regarding patients, unit activity, staffing and personnel problems to the Nurse Manager/designee daily. Provides recommendation to improve nursing workflows and efficiency. Performs all other related tasks as indicated by the Chief Nurse Executive/designee. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for quality assessment and improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation. Primary Function The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in the primary care pediatrics practices and allergy practices as directed by providers. The position is responsible for patient flow and assisting providers as necessary with examination, procedures and administration of immunizations that are adapted to the patient's development stage. Essential Functions Performs patient assessments. Provides age- and developmentally appropriate care to adolescents. Demonstrates ability and knowledge to develop, provide and document both clinical and non-clinical education to patient and family. Works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants and other health care providers in the outpatient area to provide care to patients with a variety of allergy and immunology concerns. Performs and documents patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, and chief complaint). Assists providers with obtaining consent for procedures and with procedures, including, but not limited to, suturing, suture removal, sterile procedures, minor surgical procedures, gyn exams, catheterizations, nexplanon insertion and removal, and IUD insertion and removal. Transcribes, collects, labels and arranges transport for lab specimens. Performs back office laboratory tests. Discusses normal and abnormal laboratory and radiologic test results with patients and families. Administers immunizations, oral and/or injectable medications. Administers PPD and interprets results. Orders and stocks appropriate inventory of medical-surgical supplies for lab and exam rooms. Triages patient calls utilizing protocols and nursing judgment. Triages and handles patients/families in crisis. Counsels/triages on period problems, birth control, breast concerns, smoking and drug use, eating disorders and mental health concerns. Handles calls to/from patients, physician offices, insurance companies, internal customers, etc., utilizing proper telephone etiquette. Monitors patient flow, including preparing patients and rooms. Monitors waiting room and keeps patients informed as to schedule delays. Counsels on cause and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Treats STIs with medications and injectables in the office. Coordinates and prepares for foster care appointments with necessary records, paperwork, etc. Demonstrates knowledge of continuous quality  improvement. Computer literate, including Epic, Word, Excel, DHIN, Delvax, etc. Coordinates and enrolls patients in IRB approved study protocols. Requirements Pediatric experience preferred. Bilingual candidates preferred. Must have an active DE Nursing license. Outpatient experience preferred. BSN required. CPR certification with the American Heart Association required. The Cardiac Center’s Outpatient Services at AIDHC include cardiac-employed staff in NJ and Delaware satellites. This involves supervising medical assistants, ECG technicians, Holter monitor technician, nurses and clerical staff. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations in our busy clinical practice in Wilmington. This includes managing daily patient flow, training staff, supervising nurses in phone triage, documentation, performance of cardiac-related studies, sedations, coordinating preoperative surgery patients, facilitating admissions from clinic, and managing subspecialty groups of patients with the assistance of the patient’s cardiologist. Also responsible for managing the day-to-day activities in the ECG lab and Holter lab, ensuring that studies are performed, interpreted, resulted and billed in a timely fashion. Although this position primarily resides in our Wilmington office, this position will have management input into processes that span across our 14 satellite offices in the tri-state area (DE, NJ, PA). Responsibilities Provides registered nurse services in the Cardiac Center's Outpatient Clinic under the direction of the Chief of Cardiology and Director of Clinical Operations. Provides age- and developmentally appropriate care to infants, children and adolescents. Provides clinical assistance to cardiologists. Responds to and provides direction during crises and emergency situations. Assumes responsibility for the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services. Provides leadership and direction to patient care team members in accordance with organizational goals. Responsible for the patient care delivered by other clinical staff assigned to the Cardiac Center’s Outpatient Clinics at AIDHC and cardiac-specific satellite offices (in NJ and DE), and provides advice and guidance to other health care providers. Maintains clinical skills to provide coverage to staff during times of short staffing. Reconciles ECG and other studies done to charges entered into Epic. Maintains accurate patient logs and databases. Makes sound decisions, implements strategies and evaluates outcomes. Provides management and leadership of other patient care units within the Cardiac Center when necessary. Acts as a change agent. Supports attendance at continuing education programs/seminars within budgetary constraints. Supervises coordination of equipment and supply purchase within the Outpatient Clinic. Negotiates equipment and supply pricing. Responsible for the economical utilization and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Ensures the continuous assessment and improvement of quality patient care. Ensures the safety of patients and employees by providing sufficient training on all equipment and procedures and maintaining clinical proficiency of all clinic staff. Participates in departmental and hospital programs for quality assessment and improvement, and works with department management to improve the services provided. Responsible for new and ongoing quality improvement projects and metrics-reports data; analyzes and plans for improvements. Membership required on Cardiac Care Committee. Assists in the budgeting process and cost accounting procedures for the Cardiac Center’s outpatient practice. Ensures patient-focused unit(s) deliver quality services within budgetary guidelines. Works with staff to coordinate care with health care providers of all disciplines to achieve patient care goals. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, personnel needs and departmental needs to increase productivity of the unit. Provides leadership and direction for interviewing and selection of patient care team members. Prepares and conducts employee performance after probationary period and annually. Responsible for guidance and counseling of employee work performance. Plans Cardiac Center's Outpatient Clinic schedule to provide adequate coverage in support of clinic operations and physician needs. Enters clinic staffs' time into Kronos. Ensures proper payroll practices are adhered to at all times. Interprets and enforces hospital and departmental policies; provides information for standards review and revision. Develops, supports and facilitates hospital direction and goals. Contributes to professional growth and development of patient care team by identifying educational resources and opportunities with regard to clinic services to patients. Applies supervisory skills in a fair, consistent and objective manner. Collaborates with patient care team to monitor, evaluate and improve the patient care delivery system to increase customer satisfaction and clinic productivity. Assumes responsibilities for the clinic quality assurance program; initiates changes in delivery of care in accordance with results of QA monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the change process. Assists in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and new services. Some travel may be required to various satellite offices in the tri-state area. Supports unit-based educational programs. Has knowledge of hospital and department regulations, procedures and policies. Works in collaboration with medical staff in performing research and publications. Attendance at and participation in relevant clinical divisional/departmental activities to ensure routine administrative procedures are followed. Requirements Bachelor's degree is required. 5 years of experience. Needs extensive pediatric cardiology knowledge base. Valid professional registered nurse license in the state/states of practice. Summary The Case Management Nurse is a registered nurse who coordinates all aspects of the care of individual patients. Through the use of the nursing process, the patient care will be assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated with consideration to the appropriate use of resources. The Case Manager will manage care with a focus on designated clinical, operational and financial outcomes for aggregate patient populations. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and a family-centered process, the Case Management nurse will work to improve outcomes as measured by coordinating care to the correctly timed discharge, reduced readmission rates and improved patient/family satisfaction. Using the Standards for Case Management as a framework, will incorporate ethical and legal tenets into the essential job functions. Primary Responsibilities Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s health and psychosocial needs, including health literacy status and deficits, and develop a case management plan in collaboration with the family. Facilitate communication and coordination between members of the health care team, involving the family in the decision-making process in order to minimize fragmentation. Ensure correct level of utilization of services and resources for a select group of patients. Chart reviews are completed daily. Based on nationally recognized criteria, medical necessity for admission and continued stay is evaluated and presented to the team. Communicate with the payor liaison to ensure proper utilization of patient care resources in the hospital and in the community at the time of discharge. Additional Requirements The Case Manager oversees the delivery of care from admission through discharge and transition to the home environment. Family-centered assessment and discharge planning is started within 24 hours of admission. Documentation is done clearly and concisely in the patient chart. A plan of care with a path to home is developed with the interdisciplinary care team. Through a family-centered, interdisciplinary approach, the team can anticipate potential barriers and work together to ensure they are managed before delaying care, transition or discharge. Family education for care in the home is initiated by the direct care nurses and is kept on track. The Case Manager collaborates with the direct care nurses to evaluate progression of education and to surface any barriers to learning care. Anticipates discharge needs in terms of equipment, resources and follow-up care so that arrangements can be initiated as early in the course as possible. Case Managers work closely with Social Workers to ensure a safe and successful discharge. The Case Manager is able to reprioritize based on changing needs of the patient aggregate and plan accordingly. Education and Training Pediatric experience required, minimum of 5 years. BSN required. Delaware Nursing licensure required. Certification in Case Management preferred; attainment within 2 years of employment. Ranked among the nation’s best pediatric hospitals by U.S. News & World Report and honored with the ANCC’s Magnet® Designation for excellence in nursing practice, we offer intensive and acute inpatient and outpatient services covering more than 30 pediatric specialties. In October, we will complete a multi-phase hospital expansion that will include new inpatient rooms, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. Additionally, Nemours duPont Pediatrics allows us to reach more children across the region through community-based physician services and collaborative partnerships with health and hospital systems. The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in the primary care pediatrics practices and allergy practices as directed by providers. The position is responsible for patient flow and assisting providers as necessary with examination, procedures and administration of immunizations which are adapted to the patient's development stage. Performs patient assessments. Works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants and other health care providers in the outpatient area to provide care to patients with a variety of allergy and immunology concerns Performs and documents patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, chief complaint). Assists providers with procedures, including but not limited to, suturing, suture removal, sterile procedures, minor surgical procedures, gyn exams, catheterizations. Performs phlebotomy, via venipuncture or capillary techniques, to obtain blood specimens.Transcribe, collect, label and arrange transport for lab specimens. Performs back office laboratory tests. Administers immunizations, oral and/or injectable medications. Administers PPD and interpret results. Orders and stocks appropriate inventory of medical-surgical supplies for lab and exam rooms. Triages patient calls utilizing delineated protocols under the supervision of the provider. Provides age and developmental appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. Monitors patient flow including preparing patients and rooms for physicals and sick visits. Administer a variety of allergy testing including skin testing, intradermal, patch testing and immunotherapy. Work hours: Monday thru Friday, 20 hours a week.   Requirements Pediatric experience preferred. Bilingual candidates preferred. Must have an active DE nursing license. Outpatient experience preferred. BSN preferred. CPR Certification with the American Heart Association required.
