Primary Function This is a front-line manager position. This position will be responsible for helping in the clinic as a staff member as needed for coverage. Responsibilities include operations, telephone triage, documentation, patient care and facilitating admissions from the clinic to the hospital. Responsible for planning, development and utilization of human and material resources to meet departmental needs. Mentors and develops staff. Manages the environment of practice. Evaluates the performance of personnel. a) Designs and implements appropriate roles for utilization of all staff. b) Supervises patient care activities to ensure appropriate staff utilization in accordance with the DE Nurse Practice Act and in accordance established standards of care. c) Utilizes written performance criteria as basis for performance appraisal; gathers fair and objective data for evaluation of performance. d) Conducts performance evaluations at designated intervals. e) Utilizes progressive performance improvement process to address performance deficiencies. f) Provides frequent, informal feedback on staff performance. 11. Participates in planning and monitoring the budget for defined areas of responsibility. a) Prepares the budget for professional and technical staff, equipment and supplies for assigned areas of responsibility. b) Monitors and explains budgetary variances. 12. Participates in and involves the staff in evaluative research activities. a) Facilitates staff participation in the systematic, interdisciplinary and ongoing evaluation of policies, procedures and the attainment of desired patient outcomes. b) Utilizes current research findings and practice guidelines to develop and revise organizational practices, standards and policies. c) Facilitates the conduct of and utilization of research. d) Advocates for resources necessary to support research/research utilization. e) Integrates nursing, management and organizational theory into the development of practice standards, policies and guidelines. 13. Acts as liaison between Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and collaborating physicians. Acts as a liaison between Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Specialty Nurses and physician practice administration. Provides leadership and coordinates agendas for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Specialty Nurse meetings. Facilitates the APRN Council and the APRN Credentialing Committee. Represents the Chief Nurse Executive on the Medical Credentialing Committee. Assists in the development/revision of Standards of Practice within the Nursing Department; acts as a liaison to a variety of subspecialties. Assists or acts as liaison for APRNs/Specialty Nurses to communicate guidelines for patient care and educational programming. Promotes open and effective communication inter- and intra-departmentally. Participates in recruitment and retention of APRN/Specialty Nurses. Ensures orientation of newly hired APRNs/Specialty Nurses in conjunction with the collaborating physicians. The Trauma Research Performance Improvement (PI) Nurse Coordinator works collaboratively with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Director on clinical and research components of the Trauma Program. This person is responsible for day-to-day performance improvement initiatives surrounding trauma patients and ensuring compliance with the American College of Surgeon’s research criteria for a Level I Trauma Center. Essential Functions Coordinates, participates in and documents trauma performance improvement activities: identifies issues, expected outcomes, loop closures and plan of care for trauma patients. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Director to develop and implement policies, procedures and care management processes to improve clinical outcomes. Analyzes data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Participates in the preparation and completion of internal and external reports, survey documents and site visits. Collaborates with and assists Trauma Operations Committee members, physician investigators, trauma registry staff and other interested parties with the design, implementation, interpretation and submission for publication all trauma-related research studies. Coordinates IRB submissions related to trauma research. Ensures compliance with IRB for all trauma-related research activities. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing Research to ensure hospital-wide participation in trauma-related research initiatives. Participates in training of nursing and other staff for study purposes; recruits, screens and enrolls sufficient number of study participants in conformance with protocol requirements. Facilitates trauma research committee meetings. Performs clinical data gathering and measurements as appropriate. Requirements Master’s degree in nursing, nursing research or public health required (or must be enrolled in such a program). Must have some trauma or PI background; knowledge of trauma registry preferred. We are the only Level IV NICU in the state of Delaware, providing care for the most critically ill newborns with on-site cardiothoracic surgery and the state's only neonatal extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) center. Essential Responsibilities A registered nurse responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and providing care to assigned patients. Utilizes critical thinking to formulate nursing plan based on patient's complex needs and problems. Formulates, implements and evaluates nursing plan based on patient's complex needs and problems. Assists patient and family in discharge planning so that problems and care needs are anticipated and met. Job Description: Nurse, RN, Ortho / Acute Rehabilitation, Rotating Shifts (Pediatrics, BSN) Nemours is seeking a Registered Nurse - Ortho/Acute Rehabilitation to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This position is 60 hours every two weeks, rotating shifts with every third weekend and holiday rotation. This unit is designated for acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, comprehensive rehabilitation and ventilator-dependent rehabilitation patients with tracheotomies. Additional services include orthopedic surgical care, medically complex pediatric patients, transitional neonatal care, neurosurgery and non-surgical neurologic care, as well as video EEG studies. Special equipment includes ventilators, portable suction, feeding pumps, BIPAP and CPAP machines, infusion pumps and wound vacutainers. Each bed is also equipped with bedside monitors and computers, compressed air, oxygen and vacuum hook-up for suction. Patient care unit goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective care. Patient- and family-centered care is the nursing model used to provide care for all patients. Patients’ and families’ needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based upon departmental policies and procedures, as well as multidisciplinary standards of care and practice. This unit also provides education to families and caregivers to ensure they are comfortable caring for their child. The unit participated in a CARF survey in 2011 in which the Rehabilitation Program received a full accreditation. Individuals and services providing care on 3 West: The Divisions of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics both with board-certified physicians, fellows and residents. The Division of Rehabilitation, consisting of 3 board-certified physiatrists/pediatricians. This division also provides residents and program managers. The divisions of Neonatology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pulmonology. Advanced Practice Nurses are available for all patients and work collaboratively with the appropriate service physician. A nurse manager has 24-hour accountability for management and leadership of the staff. A registered nurse assumes a charge nurse role on all shifts and is responsible for the coordination of unit activities and the evaluation, anticipation and communication with the nursing supervisor. Unit clerks/nursing assistants assist the staff and families in facilitating communications with other units and departments of the hospital.  They may also perform limited aspects of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. A complete complement of ancillary services including, but not limited to, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, therapeutic services, nutrition, social work and pharmacy. The Rehabilitation Team provides a multidisciplinary approach to Rehabilitation patients. A board-certified physician directs the team. Registered nurses providing care are BLS, PALS and ENPC-certified. Other certifications include CPN and CRRN. Staffing Pattern: Schedules and staffing patterns will be created once new units are established. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must be eligible for or have current DE nursing license. Must have CPR certification through the American Heart Assocaition. This position is a rotating shift with every 3rd weekend and holiday rotation. 2 West is a surgical intermediate unit with a high population of patients requiring post-operative care for urological issues, traumatic injuries and general surgery. 2 West also cares for patients with acute and end stage renal disease and patients requiring an intermediate level of nursing care due to their tracheostomy and/or ventilator needs. Each patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and suction, along with state-of-the-art cardiorespiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the health care team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. The patient care complexity directly relates to the wide range of patient care skills required for this diverse patient population. The goal of this unit is to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. The Synergy model is used in making appropriate patient assignments based on patient and family needs and nursing skill set. Special equipment used on this unit includes infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, BiPAP respirators, oxygen delivery methods, PCA and epidural pumps, wound vacutainers, ventilators and specialty beds. Nursing competencies include chest tube management, pain management, blood product administration, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, ventilator management and central line care and management. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must be eligible for or have current DE nursing license. Must have CPR certification through the American Heart Association. Documents patient information in Epic computer system. Maintains patient records that accurately reflect management of care. Respects the confidentiality of medical records, consultations and test results. Administers and documents general nursing care. This includes teaching about medications and the administration of medications. Provides patient and family teaching based on identification of specific gastrointestinal disorders. Evaluates the patient’s and family’s response to care. Demonstrates effective communication skills with the child, the family and members of the health care team. Utilizes advanced knowledge and specialized skill in nursing practice in accordance with hospital policy and protocol. Provides age- and developmentally appropriate instructions to patients and their families for procedures. Assists with arranging for insurance pre-certification for a variety of outpatient procedures and helps guide office staff with scheduling issues. Performs and documents initial outpatient assessment in the clinic, including history taking. Graphs physical developments. Helps perform the medication review. Monitors patient flow in the outpatient clinic. Assists the physicians and Advanced Practice Nurses in collecting laboratory specimens. Able to complete the assessment and change of a gastrostomy tube. Identifies child/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate referrals. Collaborates with other health care professionals and community agencies in a team approach to comprehensive care. Participates in the department’s program to ensure continuous quality assessment and improvement in patient care activities. Job Description: Nurse, RN, Telephone Triage, Casual, Evenings (BSN, Pediatrics) Nemours is seeking a Telephone Triage Nurse - Casual to join our team in Wilmington, DE. Scheduled Hours: Week 1 - Friday 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.  Week 2 - Saturday 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Orientation will be weekdays 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. and weekends. Applicant should be flexible to pick up extra shifts when needed and available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as this unit serves our patients after hours. The Kids Health On Call telephone nurse triage unit provides patients with telephone access to a highly skilled and trained registered nurse during hours when the Nemours primary care offices are closed. Job functions include: Accurately assesses each patient's condition by actively listening to callers and asking probative questions. Identifies emergent situations and effectively transfers life threatening calls to appropriate agencies per protocol. Provides appropriate and courteous telephone advice including plan of care and patient education to callers according to approved protocols. Appropriately and accurately documents initial and ongoing telephone conversations with documentation being completed immediately after the call ends. Places outbound follow up calls to caregivers as needed. Accurately communicates information to physician on call as needed either over the telephone or by routing the necessary information to the physician through EPIC. Meet unit expectation for performance based on unit competencies and staff meeting attendance. Must be able to work independently, and make critical decisions autonomously as this is a complete work at home position after completion of orientation. Requirements: Candidate should possess excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to multitask, make time-sensitive decisions and function well independently. Must be able to work independently from home in a private workspace. Current PA and DE and NJ nursing license or ability for license reciprocity in these states. RN required BSN preferred 3-5 years pediatric experience Nurse triage or primary care nursing experience preferred. Bilingual, Spanish speaking skills are a plus. Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a plus. Must live within a 60 minute commute of the Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital.? Although this is a work from home position once orientation is completed, there may be times you will be required to work from the hospital, or attend mandatory hospital based meetings.
