Job Description: Senior Director of Nursing, Peri-Operative Services, RN (Nurse, BSN, MSN) Nemours is seeking a Senior Director of Nursing - Peri-Operative Services to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This leader will have oversight for the OR, Pre-OP/PACU, Day Medicine and GI at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital and our Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Bryn Mawr, PA and Deptford, NJ. The Cardiac Center’s Outpatient Services at AIDHC include cardiac-employed staff in NJ and Delaware satellites. This involves supervising medical assistants, ECG technicians, Holter monitor technician, nurses and clerical staff. Responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations in our busy clinical practice in Wilmington. This includes managing daily patient flow, training staff, supervising nurses in phone triage, documentation, performance of cardiac-related studies, sedations, coordinating preoperative surgery patients, facilitating admissions from clinic, and managing subspecialty groups of patients with the assistance of the patient’s cardiologist. Also responsible for managing the day-to-day activities in the ECG lab and Holter lab, ensuring that studies are performed, interpreted, resulted and billed in a timely fashion. Although this position primarily resides in our Wilmington office, this position will have management input into processes that span across our 14 satellite offices in the tri-state area (DE, NJ, PA). Responsibilities Provides registered nurse services in the Cardiac Center's Outpatient Clinic under the direction of the Chief of Cardiology and Director of Clinical Operations. Provides age- and developmentally appropriate care to infants, children and adolescents. Provides clinical assistance to cardiologists. Responds to and provides direction during crises and emergency situations. Assumes responsibility for the coordination and integration of interdepartmental and intradepartmental services. Provides leadership and direction to patient care team members in accordance with organizational goals. Responsible for the patient care delivered by other clinical staff assigned to the Cardiac Center’s Outpatient Clinics at AIDHC and cardiac-specific satellite offices (in NJ and DE), and provides advice and guidance to other health care providers. Maintains clinical skills to provide coverage to staff during times of short staffing. Reconciles ECG and other studies done to charges entered into Epic. Maintains accurate patient logs and databases. Makes sound decisions, implements strategies and evaluates outcomes. Provides management and leadership of other patient care units within the Cardiac Center when necessary. Acts as a change agent. Supports attendance at continuing education programs/seminars within budgetary constraints. Supervises coordination of equipment and supply purchase within the Outpatient Clinic. Negotiates equipment and supply pricing. Responsible for the economical utilization and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Ensures the continuous assessment and improvement of quality patient care. Ensures the safety of patients and employees by providing sufficient training on all equipment and procedures and maintaining clinical proficiency of all clinic staff. Participates in departmental and hospital programs for quality assessment and improvement, and works with department management to improve the services provided. Responsible for new and ongoing quality improvement projects and metrics-reports data; analyzes and plans for improvements. Membership required on Cardiac Care Committee. Assists in the budgeting process and cost accounting procedures for the Cardiac Center’s outpatient practice. Ensures patient-focused unit(s) deliver quality services within budgetary guidelines. Works with staff to coordinate care with health care providers of all disciplines to achieve patient care goals. Assesses and evaluates patient care needs, personnel needs and departmental needs to increase productivity of the unit. Provides leadership and direction for interviewing and selection of patient care team members. Prepares and conducts employee performance after probationary period and annually. Responsible for guidance and counseling of employee work performance. Plans Cardiac Center's Outpatient Clinic schedule to provide adequate coverage in support of clinic operations and physician needs. Enters clinic staffs' time into Kronos. Ensures proper payroll practices are adhered to at all times. Interprets and enforces hospital and departmental policies; provides information for standards review and revision. Develops, supports and facilitates hospital direction and goals. Contributes to professional growth and development of patient care team by identifying educational resources and opportunities with regard to clinic services to patients. Applies supervisory skills in a fair, consistent and objective manner. Collaborates with patient care team to monitor, evaluate and improve the patient care delivery system to increase customer satisfaction and clinic productivity. Assumes responsibilities for the clinic quality assurance program; initiates changes in delivery of care in accordance with results of QA monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of the change process. Assists in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of policies, procedures and new services. Some travel may be required to various satellite offices in the tri-state area. Supports unit-based educational programs. Has knowledge of hospital and department regulations, procedures and policies. Works in collaboration with medical staff in performing research and publications. Requirements Bachelor's degree is required. 5 years of experience. Pediatric cardiology knowledge base preferred. Valid professional registered nurse license in the state/states of practice. Job Description: Nurse, RN, Ortho / Acute Rehabilitation, Rotating Shifts (Pediatrics, BSN) Nemours is seeking a Registered Nurse - Ortho/Acute Rehabilitation to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This position is 60 hours every two weeks, rotating shifts with every third weekend and holiday rotation. This unit is designated for acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, comprehensive rehabilitation and ventilator-dependent rehabilitation patients with tracheotomies. Additional services include orthopedic surgical care, medically complex pediatric patients, transitional neonatal care, neurosurgery and non-surgical neurologic care, as well as video EEG studies. Special equipment includes ventilators, portable suction, feeding pumps, BIPAP and CPAP machines, infusion pumps and wound vacutainers. Each bed is also equipped with bedside monitors and computers, compressed air, oxygen and vacuum hook-up for suction. Patient care unit goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective care. Patient- and family-centered care is the nursing model used to provide care for all patients. Patients’ and families’ needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based upon departmental policies and procedures, as well as multidisciplinary standards of care and practice. This unit also provides education to families and caregivers to ensure they are comfortable caring for their child. The unit participated in a CARF survey in 2011 in which the Rehabilitation Program received a full accreditation. Individuals and services providing care on 3 West: The Divisions of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics both with board-certified physicians, fellows and residents. The Division of Rehabilitation, consisting of 3 board-certified physiatrists/pediatricians. This division also provides residents and program managers. The divisions of Neonatology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pulmonology. Advanced Practice Nurses are available for all patients and work collaboratively with the appropriate service physician. A nurse manager has 24-hour accountability for management and leadership of the staff. A registered nurse assumes a charge nurse role on all shifts and is responsible for the coordination of unit activities and the evaluation, anticipation and communication with the nursing supervisor. Unit clerks/nursing assistants assist the staff and families in facilitating communications with other units and departments of the hospital.  They may also perform limited aspects of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. A complete complement of ancillary services including, but not limited to, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, therapeutic services, nutrition, social work and pharmacy. The Rehabilitation Team provides a multidisciplinary approach to Rehabilitation patients. A board-certified physician directs the team. Registered nurses providing care are BLS, PALS and ENPC-certified. Other certifications include CPN and CRRN. Staffing Pattern: Schedules and staffing patterns will be created once new units are established. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must be eligible for or have current DE nursing license. Must have CPR certification through the American Heart Assocaition. Job Description: Nurse, RN, Orthopedics / Rehabilitation, Rotating Shifts (ASN, BSN, Pediatrics) Nemours is seeking a Registered Nurse - Ortho/Rehab to join our team in Wilmington, DE. This position is 72 hours every two weeks, rotating shifts with every third weekend and holiday rotation. We recently completed a multi-phase hospital expansion that includes new inpatient rooms, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department. Additionally, Nemours duPont Pediatrics allows us to reach more children across the region through community-based physician services and collaborative partnerships with health and hospital systems. 3 West is 24-bed unit; this area cares for patients of all ages. This unit is designated for acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, comprehensive rehabilitation and ventilator-dependent rehabilitation patients with tracheotomies. Additional services include orthopedic surgical care, medically complex pediatric patients, transitional neonatal care, neurosurgery and non-surgical neurologic care, as well as video EEG studies. Special equipment includes ventilators, portable suction, feeding pumps, BiPAP and CPAP machines, infusion pumps and wound vacutainers. Each bed is also equipped with bedside monitors and computers, compressed air, oxygen and vacuum hook-up for suction. Patient care unit goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective care. Patient and family-centered care is the nursing model used to provide care for all patients. Patients’ and families’ needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based upon departmental policies and procedures, as well as multidisciplinary standards of care and practice. This unit also provides education to families and caregivers to ensure they are comfortable caring for their child. The unit participated in a CARF survey in 2011 in which the Rehabilitation Program received a full accreditation. Individuals and services providing care on 3 West: The Divisions of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics, both with board-certified physicians, fellows and residents. The Division of Rehabilitation, consisting of 3 board-certified physiatrists/pediatricians. This division also provides residents and program managers. The Divisions of Neonatology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pulmonology. Advanced Practice Nurses are available for all patients and work collaboratively with the appropriate service physician. A nurse manager has 24-hour accountability for management and leadership of the staff. A registered nurse assumes a charge nurse role on all shifts and is responsible for the coordination of unit activities and the evaluation, anticipation and communication with the nursing supervisor. Unit clerks/nursing assistants assist the staff and families in facilitating communications with other units and departments of the hospital. They may also perform limited aspects of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. A complete complement of ancillary services including, but not limited to, Laboratory, Radiology, Respiratory, Therapeutic Services, Nutrition, Social Work and Pharmacy. The Rehabilitation Team provides a multidisciplinary approach to Rehabilitation patients. A board-certified physician directs the team. Registered Nurses providing care are BLS, PALS and ENPC-certified. Other certifications include CPN and CRRN. Staffing Pattern: Schedules and staffing patterns will be created once new units are established. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must be eligible for or have current DE nursing license. Must have CPR certification through the American Heart Association. Patient and family care needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based upon written departmental policies and procedures, as well as multidisciplinary standards of care and practice. Personnel providing care are: The Division of Pediatrics with board-certified pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists and residents The Division of Gastroenterology The Division of Endocrinology The Division of Pulmonology Advanced Practice Nurses are available and work collaboratively with service physicians. The Nurse Manager has 24-hour accountability for the management and leadership of the staff. The Assistant Nurse Manager reports directly to the Nurse Manager, provides both direct and indirect patient care, and is responsible for the daily coordination of unit activities. The Medical Nurse Clinicians assist the Nursing leadership team with planning for educational opportunities, including orientations and skills reviews, as well as promoting professional development of all nursing staff. Registered Nurses provide direct patient care in a variety of scheduling patterns to meet the needs of the unit. They perform assessment, planning, implementing and evaluating care of the patient population of the unit; collaborate with other departments to facilitate care; and are actively involved in daily rounds, patient/family education and discharge planning. Staff participates in unit and hospital-based Shared Governance committees supporting the Drive to Excellence. Nursing Assistants perform established aspects of patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. They also assist staff and families in facilitating communications with other units and departments of the hospital. The Specialty Nurse for Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine would help with phone calls, prior authorizations, scheduling of sleep studies, results reporting and care coordination. Performs appropriate assessment of patient/family upon arrival/admission. Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care related to patient needs. Identifies patient/family need for further resources, and initiates appropriate teaching and/or referrals. Participates in responding to patient phone calls. Explains treatment regimens to patient/family after having discussed with the physician. Demonstrates ability to share clinical knowledge with other members of the health care team; works collaboratively with Nursing Education Department to share subspecialty knowledge with nursing staff. Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team. Utilizes specialized body of knowledge and technical skills in nursing practice related to subspecialty in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and protocol. Participates in the development of standards of care for the specialty patient population. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and adults. Each patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and suction, along with state-of-the-art cardiorespiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the health care team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. The patient care complexity directly relates to the wide range of patient care skills required for this diverse patient population. The goal of this unit is to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. The Synergy model is used in making appropriate patient assignments based on patient and family needs and nursing skill set. Special equipment used on this unit includes infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, BiPAP respirators, oxygen delivery methods, PCA and epidural pumps, wound vacutainers, ventilators and specialty beds. Nursing competencies include chest tube management, pain management, blood product administration, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, ventilator management and central line care and management. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN Nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. The position is responsible for patient flow and assisting providers as necessary with examination, procedures and administration of immunizations which are adapted to the patient's development stage. Performs patient assessments. Works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants and other health care providers in the outpatient area to provide care to patients with a variety of allergy and immunology concerns Performs and documents patient intake (height, weight, head circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, reason for visit, chief complaint). Assists providers with procedures, including but not limited to, suturing, suture removal, sterile procedures, minor surgical procedures, gyn exams, catheterizations. Performs phlebotomy, via venipuncture or capillary techniques, to obtain blood specimens.Transcribe, collect, label and arrange transport for lab specimens. Performs back office laboratory tests. Administers immunizations, oral and/or injectable medications. Administers PPD and interpret results. Orders and stocks appropriate inventory of medical-surgical supplies for lab and exam rooms. Triages patient calls utilizing delineated protocols under the supervision of the provider. Provides age and developmental appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. Monitors patient flow including preparing patients and rooms for physicals and sick visits. Administer a variety of allergy testing including skin testing, intradermal, patch testing and immunotherapy. Work hours: Monday thru Friday, 20 hours a week.   Requirements Pediatric experience preferred. Bilingual candidates preferred. Must have an active DE nursing license. Outpatient experience preferred. BSN preferred. CPR Certification with the American Heart Association required. Each patient room is equipped with oxygen, compressed air and suction, along with state-of-the-art cardiorespiratory bedside monitors and computers that enable the health care team to access a patient’s electronic medical record. The patient care complexity directly relates to the wide range of patient care skills required for this diverse patient population. The goal of this unit is to provide high-quality, cost-effective patient care. The Synergy model is used in making appropriate patient assignments based on patient and family needs and nursing skill set. Special equipment used on this unit includes infusion pumps, syringe pumps, feeding pumps, BiPAP respirators, oxygen delivery methods, PCA and epidural pumps, wound vacutainers, ventilators and specialty beds. Nursing competencies include chest tube management, pain management, blood product administration, urinary catheterization, tracheostomy care, ventilator managemen and central line care and management. Requirements BSN nurses required. 1 year acute care experience required. Trach/vent experience preferred. Pediatric experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. The position is a full-time position for a bilingual Spanish/English RN. The hours vary from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is a requirement of 4 weekends a year, which include Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Requirements BSN preferred. Primary care pediatric experience preferred. Job Description: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, NNP, MSN, Rotating Shifts (NP, CRNP, Pediatrics) Nemours is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Delaware with possible staffing support at sites in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is the only Level IV NICU in the state of Delaware and surrounding 4-state suburban region. Our team of BC/BE Neonatologists and NNPs provide state-of-the-art care throughout the spectrum of neonatal medical and surgical critical care, including all forms of advanced respiratory support and ECMO, in an family-centered, single-patient room environment. Multidisciplinary clinical programs in neonatal skeletal dysplasia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and neonatal pulmonary hypertension draw referrals from throughout the region and across the country. With an active critical care neonatal/pediatric transport team and telemedicine program, the neonatal division provides critical care consultation and intervention from the moment a sick neonate is born at a referring hospital and throughout interfacility transport. The Division of Neonatology also provides clinical coverage at our local partner Level II delivery hospital. Occasional, as-needed outreach support for infant stabilization may be provided at partner facilities in the region. Manages and provides care for the patient requiring neonatal intensive care utilizing collaborative consultation with team members, under the direction and supervision of an attending neonatologist. a. Receives a distressed neonate in the Delivery Room and initiates appropriate intervention. b. Performs a complete newborn physical examination and assessment of gestational age, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. c. Conducts parent interviews and takes family history. d. Collaborates with neonatologists concerning pertinent historical events, physical findings, and diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated on all admissions. e. Orders appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. f. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient. g. Reviews and provides general care items involved in neonatal care, such as thermoregulation, hyperalimentation therapy, feeding management and phototherapy. h. Participates in daily rounds in NICU. i. Collaborates with multidisciplinary health care team in coordinating inpatient and follow-up care. j. Facilitates the transfer of patients to/from other hospitals, and participates as the clinical team lead during interfacility neonatal critical care transport. B. Verifies That the Quality of Care Is Documented in the Medical Records 1. Elicits, records and interprets the past medical, psychosocial and obstetrical history of the neonate's family. 2. Documents total plan for delivery of care. Writes orders for accomplishing that plan and implements the plan personally or through collaboration with medical and nursing staffs. 3. Evaluates and revises plan of care on an ongoing basis, and reviews revisions with Neonatologist. 4. Assists with discharge planning/teaching. C. Participates in Scholarly Activities 1.  Disseminates nursing research findings and incorporates these findings into nursing practices for patient care within the NICU; participates in research endeavors and program development. 2.  Identifies educational needs of nursing staff regarding the care of patients in the NICU. Serves as an educational resource for unit and the organization. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Required 1. Current Registered Nurse license in state(s) of practice. 2. Job Description: Sr Performance Improvement & Patient Safety Coordinator (Nurse, RN, SIx Sigma) Nemours is seeking a Senior Performance Improvement and Patient Safety Coordinator to join our VP, Quality & Safety team in Wilmington, DE. Summary Coordinates and participates in the collection of data from medical records, logs, databases and error-reporting systems that support performance improvement, patient safety and regulatory readiness activities of the hospital and the practice. Coordinates the collection of quality and safety-related data for medical staff quality profiles. Coordinates and facilitates the Failure Mode, Effects Analysis and Root Cause Analysis processes. This position is responsible for organizing, compiling, documenting and analyzing data to produce reports from which opportunities for quality/safety improvement, intervention and educational activities can be identified. Educates staff in continuous quality improvement and patient safety concepts, processes and tools as needed within the scope of these responsibilities. Utilizes the quality methodology in training departments and multidisciplinary teams. Works with hospital and medical staff at all levels of the organization to design and implement data collection methodologies, databases, action plans and reporting strategies. Facilitates teams as necessary to achieve performance improvement within the organization. Participates in continuous survey-readiness activities. Coordinates and conducts evaluation of hospital and medical staff processes via Tracer Methodology to support compliance with state, federal and other regulatory agencies’ standards. Participates as a member of committees, as assigned. Supports essential hospital and enterprise-wide quality and patient safety initiatives including, but not limited to, medication safety. Cross-covers, as needed, to meet the responsibilities of the department as a whole. This position supports these activities in all venues within the enterprise as assigned. It is anticipated that travel of up to 25% of scheduled work time may be required to meet the objectives of this position. Essential Responsibilities Facilitates commitment to an organization and enterprise-wide quality/safety culture and strategy. Facilitates the participation of individual department, service or medical staff in organization and enterprise-wide quality/safety activities. Collaborates with hospital, practice and medical staff leadership and key committees to develop long-range goals, objectives and strategies for quality/safety improvement across all enterprise entities. Assists in the identification of specific organizational needs and priorities related to quality improvement and patient safety utilizing a variety of sources including, but not limited to, measurement data, variance reports, patient/staff suggestions, team recommendations, comparative data, regulatory standards/reports, focus groups and knowledge-based information. Establishes a process, in collaboration with departmental leaders, for proactively assessing the hospital and/or practice for quality and safety improvement opportunities. Educates and acts as a resource to all hospital and practice personnel on quality methodologies and regulatory standards related to quality and patient safety. Designs data collection processes and tools as appropriate to the project. Supports the hospital and enterprise medical staff and departmental leaders in the ongoing collection of data to meet regulatory and peer review needs. Conducts concurrent and retrospective focused studies to evaluate and analyze targeted areas of performance. Analyzes data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement as assigned. Prepares data into meaningful information using forms, reports, graphs, tables, slides and other documents to communicate results. Presents as appropriate data results to administration, medical staff, departments and committees. Facilitates multidisciplinary teams or committees as assigned. Assists managers and employees in identifying action plans to improve performance and safety in the hospital and practice. Utilizes Tracer Methodology to assess compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Under the Direction of the Managing Director of Quality and Safety, performs enterprise-wide mock survey activity to support survey readiness at each pertinent business location. Facilitates and/or prepares formal documents, reports, plans or policies to support quality and safety activities, i.e., Root Cause Analysis, Failure Mode Effects Analysis, Team Proposal forms, progress reports, data definitions, etc. Under the Direction of the Managing Director of Quality and Safety, designs and ensures the capture of quality/safety data for the medical staff quality and outcomes review process by working with the medical staff to identify, define and determine the best metrics to be used throughout the enterprise. Supports the medical staff peer review process through indicator screening, case identification and referral. Provides input into the employee Annual Safety Training to ensure necessary educational components are included to meet state, federal and JCAHO regulations. Facilitates and participates in the evaluation of quality/safety program effectiveness. Keeps Director of Quality and Patient Safety apprised of barriers to completion of objectives. Additional Requirements Excellent communication skills, including both verbal and written. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to associates at all levels. Demonstrated presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to prioritize, facilitate, plan and execute improvement-related projects. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously. Quantitative analytical skills essential. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Demonstrated skills with Microsoft Office applications and other databases. Project management skills with attention to detail. Ability to view opportunities for improvement through a systems perspective. Knowledge of and experience with progressive quality improvement and patient safety. Progressive quality methodology experience preferred. Education and Training Registered Nurse required. Individual must possess a Bachelor's degree or equivalent clinical experience; Master's degree in a related field preferred. Certification in Healthcare Quality, Lean or Six Sigma required. Demonstrated experience and achievement in performance improvement and quality assurance, preferably in a health care provider setting. Experience in dealing with regulatory agencies. Experience in utilizing and teaching a variety of quality methodologies/models. Experience in the design and manipulation of databases. More than 5 years experience in health care performance/quality improvement and patient safety.
