Additionally, Nemours duPont Pediatrics allows us to reach more children across the region through community-based physician services and collaborative partnerships with health and hospital systems. Primary Function This individual will work collaboratively with physicians, consultants, nurses and other health care practitioners, dedicating his/her specialized practice to patients in the CICU, inpatient floor and occasionally in the cardiac outpatient clinic. Our patient population ranges from newborns to young adults with congenital or acquired heart disease. We perform all of the complex cardiac repairs, including heart transplants, utilizing the full range of technical modalities such as ECMO/ECLS and ventricular assist devices, including the Berlin Heart, Thoratec and implantable Heart ware models. We also provide nitric oxide and continuous renal replacement when indicated. Essential Responsiblities Obtain medical history, perform physical exam, and order and interpret laboratory data on all patients being admitted to the Nemours Cardiac Center. Assist the physician staff of the Nemours Cardiac Center to provide inpatient and outpatient care services. Assist the Cardiac Staff in the pre-operative preparation and post-operative care of surgical patients. Coordinate ongoing overall patient care with physician staff, other nurse practitioners and physician assistants, nursing staff and other ancillary care providers to ensure treatment plans are implemented. Interact with families of the patients on the cardiac service, embracing our family-centered focus. Write a daily progress note on inpatients, collate inpatient records and perform discharge summaries, utilizing the electronic medical record. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives. Attend departmental patient care conferences. Position Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Master of Science in Nursing. 5 years related clinical experience. Licensure, Registrations or Certificates Must have or be eligible for registered nurse in the state of Delaware. Must have or be eligible for Advanced Practice Nurse License in the state of Delaware with prescriptive authority. Functioning in accordance with objectives and established protocols and, under the supervision of a physician, serves as a Registered Nurse in the Employee Health Department. Utilizing the nursing process, is responsible for providing an employee health services system that ensures a safe and healthy workforce is maintained. The hours for this position can be flexible, but will need to meet the needs of the Employee Health area as well. The ability for a job share match would possibly be an option as well. Evaluates pre-employment or participation laboratory results, and provides appropriate notification to employees/participants. Discusses laboratory and health screening results with employees/participants. Provides appropriate referrals as necessary. In conjunction with departmental staff and the Medical Director, coordinates the documentation, medical certification and approval/denial of medical leave of absence requests. Monitors and coordinates the ongoing administration of medical leaves. Evaluates employees desiring to return to work after a leave of absence (following written consent to return to work from their personal physicians) or occupational injury, in order to determine any medical limitations. Coordinates employee return-to-work requirements with Supervisors, Risk Management and HR Business Partners as required. Examines employees, participants, visitors and vendors who are injured on the job or on hospital property, and refers them for follow-up treatment as necessary. Initiates blood/body fluid and meningococcal exposure protocols, and continues follow-up for one year in accordance with policy. Orders laboratory tests, x-ray studies and other diagnostic services as necessary in order to determine job performance capabilities and to rule out contagious diseases. Examines and treats minor illnesses and injuries within the established guidelines and protocols and not exceeding the scope of practice as determined by the State Board of Nursing. Complies with Employee Health policies and protocols to address such areas as services provided in Employee Health, employee counseling and treatment with prescription medications (when co-signed by the Medical Director). Maintains health service records relating to the number of employees seen, types of visits, drugs dispensed, referrals and infectious diseases identified. Prepares and distributes associated reports and analyses. Prepares and maintains health service records on employees/participants in accordance with policies/regulations. Ensures maintenance of equipment and examination rooms. Maintains and documents point-of-care testing (POCT) and emergency equipment checks in the appropriate time frame per policy and procedure. Ensures appropriate medical inventory levels by ordering and stocking supplies, medications and vaccines as necessary. Develops, maintains and delivers wellness programs that provide education and continuing health improvement. Utilizes the Employee Assistance Program to assist employees with dependencies and/or other stresses. Assists and regulates compliance with OSHA occupational health surveillance programs and regulations. Tracks data regarding Employee Health initiatives to meet quality standards, and assists with quality system reviews. Assists with the development/revision of Employee Health policies. Provides assistance to the Human Resources Department by providing appropriate information and literature to inquiring potential and existing employees. Assists with department-specific training educational programs regarding toxic substances used in the Employee Health Service. Performance Skills Appropriately evaluates, treats or triages employees with injuries/illness. Ability to maintain and administer confidential and sensitive information in an appropriate manner. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize both duties and events in importance. Attention to detail and information accuracy are critical. Demonstrated sensitivity to applicant/employee circumstances and attitudes. Works collaboratively with the Human Resource team. Sets priorities, uses time and resources effectively. Provides accurate, consistent answers to employee requests. Is knowledgeable regarding departmental processes and procedures and associated regulatory requirements. Position Qualifications Education, Training and Experience Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate's degree in Nursing or diploma from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred. Two years experience in employee or occupational health preferred. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and e-mail; ability to master internal HRIS and associated computer systems. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Licensure to practice nursing in the State of Delaware or eiligibility. COHN certification preferred. Consults and collaborates with all members of the health care team. Coordination of Patient Care Coordinates safe and effective care considering the age and specific needs of patients. Facilitates workflow, including staff assignments congruent with their abilities and the patient care requirements. Rapidly prioritizes demands with resources to meet individualized patient needs. Anticipates patient's needs as it relates to special equipment, support services, vendors and scheduling of procedures. Competency Demonstrates knowledge in the specialty area. Utilizes critical thinking skills to achieve the highest-quality standards by following established procedures in compliance with best practice. Takes action to correct errors and notifies others that may be affected. Consistently adheres to safety standards and proactively identifies and intervenes to minimize safety risks for patients and families. Patient/Family/Physician Satisfaction Identifies individual patient's needs to achieve the best clinical results utilizing evidence-based research. Maintains a quiet and professional environment that promotes safety during surgical procedures. Treats patients and visitors with respect and courtesy while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Seeks out and takes advantage of opportunities to share the AIDHC mission, vision and values to improve our image in the eyes of patients and other internal and external customers. IT Maintains proficiency in computer programs associated with the role by system evaluation and education. Collaborates with other system users. Demonstrates accountability and working knowledge in maintaining current and accurate physician preference cards in Optime for specialty. Collaborates with anesthesia care providers and surgeons to determine intra-op needs of the patient to include equipment, instrumentation, positioning and scheduling. Works with the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) to enhance daily workflow, including staff assignment congruent with staff's abilities and patient care requirements. Partners with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to assess the educational needs of the OR and presents service-specific and unit-specific in-services to provide continued learning for staff members. Collaborates with the entire health care team (ANM, CNS and Nurse Manager) to orient new staff members. Communicates with other units to provide continuity of patient care when transferring to and from the operating room. Engages ancillary departments to assist in the provision of appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment for safe patient care. Role Model/Leadership Acts as a coordinator motivating staff with the goal of empowering all staff members to function independently, aspiring to excellence. Prepares agenda/goals, provides appropriate material, and keeps minutes when conducting meetings. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state and federal regulations. Promotes adherence to AORN standards of practice. Process Improvement Identifies system issues to facilitate improvements in patient care and unit operations. Assists with development of department quality service plans and any identified process improvement opportunities. Ensures implementation, monitoring and participation in analysis of plan of care and patient outcomes. Evaluates change outcomes and redirects as needed. Demonstrates understanding of the impact of change on integrated systems. Staff Development Supports the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager by performing audits, monitoring practice, and providing feedback relative to staff development. Partners with the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to assess the educational needs of the OR and presents service-specific and unit-specific in-services to provide continued learning for staff members. Collaborates with the entire health care team (ANM, CNS and Nurse Manager) to orient new staff members. Communicates with other units to provide continuity of patient care when transferring to and from the operating room. Engages ancillary departments to assist in the provision of appropriate supplies, instruments and equipment for safe patient care. The team operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Team consists of two team members, one of which is an RN. Direct medical control is supplied by board-certified pediatric intensivists. The majority of patients transported are under two years of age with principal admitting diagnoses of respiratory illness and neurological disorders. Trauma patients with both single-extremity and multi-system injuries are also served. The team uses specially-designed equipment to maintain or exceed the level of care provided by referring facilities, including multi-parameter vital-sign monitors, compact infusion pumps and defibrillator/external pacemakers. Advanced procedures performed by PTT staff include vascular access (intravenous and intraosseous), endotracheal intubation, chest decompression and advanced airway management. The PTT transports on average four patients daily with little seasonal variation in census. Ninety percent of patients are transported by ambulance; the remaining patients are flown by helicopter. Patient placement includes specialty units such as pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care, burn, emergency and surgical units, as well as general pediatric floors. In addition to performing inter-hospital transports, PTT staff assist with patient care in the PICU, NICU and ER, and serve as resources to other nursing units within the hospital. Looking for experienced nurses.   Must have critical care experience. Transport and pediatric critical care experience preferred. Bachelor's in Nursing preferred. Bilingual preferred. Upon completion in June 2014, the hospital will include private patient rooms, a new Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and a new expanded Emergency Department. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children is a referral center primarily for infants less than 30 days of age requiring surgery. The NICU is capable, however, of caring for all infants needing intensive care, except for those requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Principle diagnoses include: abdominal wall defects, necrotizing entercolitis, neural tube defects, hydrocephalus, urologic defects, and infants with congenital anomalies. The NICU functions 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The NICU is a collaborative effort of the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and the Christiana Care Health System (CCHS). It is supported by Thomas Jefferson University. The NICU is a state of the art fourteen single room unit. Four rooms can flex to accommodate two infants, for a total capacity of 18 infants.  Each bed is monitored and supported by neonatal nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatologists, pediatric surgeons and pediatric sub-specialists. Staffing is well supported with ratios of 1:2-3. Requirements You must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must be an experienced nurse, NICU expereince preferred. This position is casual, 32 hours in 6 weeks; emphasis will be on working midnights 12am-8:30am, both weekends and weekdays to fill department needs. Other shifts may include variable shifts weekday evenings, weekend day shift, evenings and overnights. While on orientation, will be required to work weekdays 4pm-12am and weekend day or evening shift for the first 90 days. Identifying emergent situations and effectively transferring life-threatening calls to appropriate agencies per protocol. Providing appropriate and courteous telephone advice, including plan of care and patient education, to callers according to approved protocols. Appropriately and accurately documenting initial and ongoing telephone conversations with documentation being completed immediately after the call ends. Placing outbound follow-up calls to caregivers as needed. Accurately communicating information to physician on call as needed either over the telephone or by routing the necessary information to the physician through Epic. Meeting unit expectation for performance based on unit competencies and staff meeting attendance. Must be able to work independently and make critical decisions autonomously as this is a complete work-at-home position after completion of orientation. Candidate should possess excellent communication and listening skills and the ability to multitask, make time-sensitive decisions and function well independently. Must be able to work independently from home in a private workspace. Current PA, DE and NJ nursing license or ability for license reciprocity in these states. Requirements RN required; BSN preferred. 3-5 years pediatric experience; nurse triage or primary care nursing experience preferred. Must have or be eligible for a DE Nursing license; must also obtain NJ and PA nursing license as well. Must live within a 60-minute commute of the Nemours/Alfred I duPont Hospital. Although this is a work-from-home position once orientation is completed, there may be times you will be required to work from the hospital or attend mandatory hospital-based meetings. Administering immunizations (oral and/or injectable medications). Administering PPD and interpreting results. Performing phlebotomy via venipuncture or capillary techniques. Transcribing, collecting, labeling and arranging transport for lab specimens. Performing back office laboratory tests. Assisting with procedures including, but not limited to, suture removal, minor procedures and catheterizations. Monitoring patient flow, including preparing patients and rooms. Monitoring waiting room and keeping patients informed as to schedule delays. Demonstrating ability and knowledge to develop, provide and document both clinical and non-clinical education to patient and family. Developing care plans with patient and families. Demonstrating knowledge of continuous quality improvement. Ordering and stocking appropriate inventory of medical supplies. Computer literate. Working independently and proactively.   Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.     Maintaining positive, professional relationships with providers and coworkers. Work hours: This position will require some evening hours, approximately until 7:00pm, 2-3 days per week. There is a weekend commitment for rotation in the coverage for the weekend primary care clinic, which is approximately 2 weekends per year.  This position may require some additional weekend hours in the future. This postion is day shift, 7am-7pm, with rotation, every third weekend with holiday rotation. The team operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The team consists of two team members, one of whom is an RN. Direct medical control is supplied by board-certified pediatric intensivists. The majority of patients transported are under two years of age with principal admitting diagnoses of respiratory illness and neurological disorders. Trauma patients with both single-extremity and multi-system injuries are also served. The team uses specially-designed equipment to maintain or exceed the level of care provided by referring facilities, including multi-parameter vital-sign monitors, compact infusion pumps and defibrillator/external pacemakers. Advanced procedures performed by PTT staff include vascular access (intravenous and intraosseous), endotracheal intubation, chest decompression and advanced airway management. The PTT transports on average four patients daily with little seasonal variation in census. Ninety percent of patients are transported by ambulance; the remaining patients are flown by helicopter. Patient placement includes specialty units such as pediatric intensive care, cardiac intensive care, burn, emergency and surgical units, as well as general pediatric floors. In addition to performing inter-hospital transports, PTT staff assist with patient care in the PICU, NICU and ER and serve as resources to other nursing units within the hospital. Looking for experienced nurses.   Must have critical care experience. Must maintain or be eligible for licensure in the state of DE, PA and NJ. Transport and pediatric critical care experience preferred. Bachelor's in Nursing preferred. Bilingual preferred.
