The nurse will provide phone triage and consultation to pediatric ENT patients as well as Ambulatory Clinic support to ENT patients working under the direction of ENT physicians, Physicians Assistants and Advanced Practice Nurses. Other responsibilities include coordinating outpatient care through patient/family education, preauthorizations and letters of medical necessity. Requirements: BSN Required, must be eligible for nursing licensure in the state of DE. 3-5 years pediatric staff nurse experience, required. Ambulatory Care, phone triage and ENT experience a plus. Primary Function This position is responsible for the development and promotion of Advanced Practice Nursing. Provides leadership, supervision and management for a group of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and Specialty Nurses. Serves as a liaison between the Department of Nursing and Medical Staff Leadership. Leadership includes strategic planning, ensuring evidence-based care delivery, benchmarked quality patient service and outcomes, experience with Lean methodology (or similar) for continuous improvement, well-developed change management skills and fiscal stewardship. Essential Functions Supervises a group of Advanced Practice Nurses and Specialty Nurses, evaluating their performance annually. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and departmental goals. Foresees potential problem issues and intervenes to prevent unfavorable outcomes. Encourages, facilitates and supports the participation of Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Specialty Nurses in organizational and nursing department projects and activities to attain and maintain nursing excellence. Acts as liaison between Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and collaborating physicians. Acts as a liaison between Advanced Practice Registered Nurses/Specialty Nurses and physician practice administration. Provides leadership and coordinates agendas for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Specialty Nurse meetings. Facilitates the APRN Council and the APRN Credentialing Committee. Represents the Chief Nurse Executive on the Medical Credentialing Committee. Assists in the development/revision of Standards of Practice within the Nursing Department; acts as a liaison to a variety of subspecialties. Assists or acts as liaison for APRNs/Specialty Nurses to communicate guidelines for patient care and educational programming. Promotes open and effective communication inter- and intra-departmentally. Participates in recruitment and retention of APRN/Specialty Nurses. Ensures orientation of newly hired APRNs/Specialty Nurses in conjunction with the collaborating physicians. Practices collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers to provide high-quality health care to children. May use prescriptive authority if appropriately credentialed to do so. Utilizes appropriate medical staff for purposes of consultation and referral when necessary. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all ages: neonates, pediatrics, adolescents and adults. Maintains a current knowledge base through participation in appropriate professional activities. Fosters a spirit of inquiry, identifies nursing problems and participates in research endeavors. Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development. Follows cost control standards of the hospital and department, including development and management of budget. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement and Continuous Improvement. Identifies opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation. Attends committee meetings as appointed by the Operational Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. Leads special projects and/or task forces as appointed by the Operational Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. Works collaboratively with Directors of Nursing as assigned by the Operational Vice President and Chief Nursing Executive. Performs related duties as necessary. Provides direct patient care to maintain requirements for APRN licensure. Requirements Minimum 5 years of pediatric APRN experience required. Management and/or leadership experience required. Master's in Nursing required. Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice; knowledge of management theory and change process. Demonstrates a commitment to leading in adherence with the principles of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet model, exemplifying the transformational nursing leadership component of this model. This position is 60 hours every two weeks, rotating shifts with every third weekend and holiday rotation. This unit is designated for acute rehabilitation of both traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, comprehensive rehabilitation and ventilator-dependent rehabilitation patients with tracheotomies. Additional services include orthopedic surgical care, medically complex pediatric patients, transitional neonatal care, neurosurgery and non-surgical neurologic care, as well as video EEG studies. Special equipment includes ventilators, portable suction, feeding pumps, BIPAP and CPAP machines, infusion pumps and wound vacutainers. Each bed is also equipped with bedside monitors and computers, compressed air, oxygen and vacuum hook-up for suction. Patient care unit goals are to provide high-quality, cost-effective care. Patient- and family-centered care is the nursing model used to provide care for all patients. Patients’ and families’ needs are assessed, interventions provided and outcomes evaluated based upon departmental policies and procedures, as well as multidisciplinary standards of care and practice. This unit also provides education to families and caregivers to ensure they are comfortable caring for their child. The unit participated in a CARF survey in 2011 in which the Rehabilitation Program received a full accreditation. Individuals and services providing care on 3 West: The Divisions of Orthopedic Surgery and Pediatrics both with board-certified physicians, fellows and residents. The Division of Rehabilitation, consisting of 3 board-certified physiatrists/pediatricians. This division also provides residents and program managers. The divisions of Neonatology, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Pulmonology. Advanced Practice Nurses are available for all patients and work collaboratively with the appropriate service physician. A nurse manager has 24-hour accountability for management and leadership of the staff. A registered nurse assumes a charge nurse role on all shifts and is responsible for the coordination of unit activities and the evaluation, anticipation and communication with the nursing supervisor. Unit clerks/nursing assistants assist the staff and families in facilitating communications with other units and departments of the hospital.  They may also perform limited aspects of patient care under the direction of a registered nurse. A complete complement of ancillary services including, but not limited to, laboratory, radiology, respiratory, therapeutic services, nutrition, social work and pharmacy. The Rehabilitation Team provides a multidisciplinary approach to Rehabilitation patients. A board-certified physician directs the team. Registered nurses providing care are BLS, PALS and ENPC-certified. Other certifications include CPN and CRRN. Staffing Pattern: Schedules and staffing patterns will be created once new units are established. Requirements We are looking for professional and dedicated nurses. BSN nurses preferred. Pediatric experience. At least 6 months of nursing experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Must be eligible for or have current DE nursing license. Must have CPR certification through the American Heart Assocaition. Responsibilities: Monitoring patient plan of care for timely completion and efficient use of resources by facilitating diagnostic and treatment services, tests, consultations and procedures. Oversees appropriateness of care using pre-established, health industry standards ensuring the appropriate allocation and use of hospital resources. Facilitates patient flow during the inpatient stay, identifies and proactively addresses potential denials of payment. Conducts initial clinical reviews within 24 hours of patient admission. All reviews are to follow unit standards as per CM concurrent review guidelines. Provides concurrent admission, continued stay and retrospective review to insurance company staff as contractually required. Communicates anticipated Length of Stay and insurance review results to interdisciplinary team. Participates in interdisciplinary rounds as indicated. Identifies patients who do not meet current patient class criteria and takes action to communicate and change to appropriate level of care as indicated with attending physician and interdisciplinary team. Converts observation to admission and, conversely, admission to observation status; communicates change to team and others as needed. Mediates between physicians and insurance companies to avoid denials by monitoring patient plan of care and intervening as needed to assure timely completion of care at appropriate level of care. Monitors and facilitates correct patient class and accommodation codes via the EMR for every patient. Monitors payor authorization for continued stay. Communicates length of stay authorizations and anticipated discharge date to social work staff and unit based team either during patient care unit rounds or other interaction with social worker, unit based nursing staff and attending MD. Facilitates the timely completion of diagnostic tests, procedures and treatment services, consultations and discharge planning activities in collaboration with the social work staff. Function in an expanded collaborative role by planning and providing comprehensive, complete management of a primary caseload of critically-ill infants and their families. Patient Care Management Manages and provides care for the patient requiring neonatal intensive care utilizing collaborative consultation with team members, under the direction and supervision (but not necessarily the direct attendance) of an attending neonatologist. Receives a distressed neonate in the Delivery Room and initiates appropriate intervention. Performs a complete newborn physical examination and assessment of gestational age, discriminating between normal and abnormal findings. Conducts parent interviews and takes family history. Collaborates with neonatologists concerning pertinent historical events, physical findings, and diagnostic and therapeutic measures initiated on all admissions. Orders appropriate laboratory tests and procedures. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and appropriate for the care of the patient. Reviews and provides general care items involved in neonatal care, such as temperature stabilization, hyper alimentation therapy, feeding management and phototherapy. Participates in daily rounds in NICU. Collaborates with multidisciplinary health care team in planning follow-up care. Facilitates the transfer of patients to/from other hospitals. Verifies That the Quality of Care Is Documented in the Medical Records Elicits, records and interprets the past medical, psychosocial and obstetrical history of the neonate's family. Documents total plan for delivery of care, writes orders for accomplishing that plan, and implements the plan personally or through collaboration with medical and nursing staff. Evaluates and revises plan of care on an ongoing basis, and reviews revisions with Neonatologist. Assists with discharge planning/teaching. Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Required Current Registered Nurse License in state of practice. Current Nurse Practitioner License in the state of practice. Prescriptive Authority License and appropriate state DEA. National certification via NCC. NRP certification. MSN required. CPR certification with the American Heart Association. Each bed is monitored and supported by neonatal nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatologists, pediatric surgeons and pediatric sub-specialists. Staffing is well supported with ratios of 1:2-3. Requirements You must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Must be an experienced nurse; NICU experience preferred. Bilingual preferred. Experience in pediatric critical care experience nursing preferred. Have a current registration or be eligible for Delaware State Board of Nursing Licensure. We are looking for nurses with a passion for cardiology and pediatric nursing to join our cardiac critcal care team. This is a night shift position 7pm-7am, every third weekend. 60 Hours Every Two Weeks. The Nemours Cardiac Center (NCC) provides comprehensive care for infants, children and adolescents with cardiac, thoracic and vascular disease. The Cardiac Center provides patient care, performs research, and educates and trains health care professionals consistent with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Nemours Foundation. Essential Responsibilities: Assesses and documents initial and ongoing patient needs and problems. Formulates nursing plan based on patient needs and problems, and indicates plan on the patient care plan. Develops realistic and appropriate long- and short-term goals based on patient/family needs. Implements patient plan of care. Evaluates the patient's and family's response to care, and modifies care plan accordingly. Assists patient and family in discharge planning so that problems and care needs are anticipated and met. Serves as an advocate for patient and family in working with other members of the health care team. Provides safe and appropriate nursing care through adherence to Nursing Department standards. A registered nurse responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and providing care to assigned patients. Education, Training and Experience Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Must be an experienced nurse. Bilingual preferred. Experience in pediatric/cardiac and or critical care nursing preferred. Licenses, Registrations or Certification: Current or be eligible for registration with Delaware State Board of Nursing.
