The 252 residents — all wheelchair users — range in age from 20 to 90 (average age 54) and their primary diagnoses a range of neurological and musculoskeletal disorders such as multiple sclerosis (fully 43% of the current Inglis House population), cerebral palsy, and spinal cord injury.   Along with providing medical and personal care, a key aspect of the mission of serving younger adults is recognizing they typically have a wider range of needs than a geriatric nursing home resident. Younger adults, whether congenitally disabled or disabled later in life, struggle to achieve goals that give a sense of autonomy, mastery and creativity.  Inglis House provides a range of medical, personal and enrichment services that enable residents to live life to the fullest. Home care pool nursing jobs are great positions for nurses who like variety and change. Though they share the same duties as a regular home care nurse, home care pool nurses have more control over their own schedules and visit a range of patients each week.

Nurses who have home care pool RN jobs must be easygoing and flexible. They will be dealing with new patients and working in different environments every day. It is important to be well-rounded, as well, because pool nurses deal with a variety of medical issues.

Depending on the hiring facility, pool positions have different job descriptions. Some pool positions are facility wide, meaning the nurse will work in all units. These can be full-time or part-time positions, and the nurse may or may not have a lot of control over her schedule. Other pool positions may be PRN. These can be unit based or hospital wide. PRN pool nurses usually get paid more than full time nurses and can choose their own schedules, but do not receive insurance, sick time, PTO or other benefits. It is important to ask the HR manager exactly what a pool position entails.
