Though they share the same duties as regular clinical nurses, pool nurses often work on multiple units and see a wide-ranging patient population. If you’re considering a prime pool clinical nurse career, you should be well-rounded and knowledgeable about a variety of nursing units, because you will deal with an array of medical issues. These positions are great for easygoing, flexible nurses who thrive in an ever-changing atmosphere.
As a prime pool clinical nurse, your job description may vary depending on the facility in which you work. If you have a facility-wide position, you will work on all units. In some cases, these positions can even be full-time with benefits. You’ll have some more control over your schedule, but this depends on facility needs. Other pool positions may be PRN jobs which are either unit based or hospital wide. Typically, a PRN pool nurse gets paid more than full-time nurses. Although these positions have the most flexible schedules, PRN pool nurses do not receive insurance, sick time, PTO or other benefits. Before you accept a pool position, you should ask the HR manager exactly what it entails.
