Operating room nurse manager positions are integral to ensuring operating rooms run safely and efficiently. Not only do they supervise the nurses that work in the operating room, but they also complete administrative duties vital to running the OR.

In order to become an operating room nurse manager, candidates need a current RN license. Typically, a bachelor’s or even master’s degree in nursing is preferred, along with 3-7 years of experience providing nursing care in the operating room. Although their jobs are managerial, operating room nurse managers still provide direct care to surgical patients and must be able to direct and advise OR nurses.

Outside of patient care, operating room nurse manager jobs have administrative responsibilities, which include budgeting, quality improvement and staffing. They should be thoroughly knowledgeable of current hospital policies and procedures and ensure that the OR staff is in compliance.
