Join us as we work towards meeting and exceeding the growing needs of our diverse communities, further our lifesaving strategic goals in a rapidly changing environment, and expand our impact on the local, national, and global communities we serve.   As a key member of our Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL), you will play an integral role in performing technical procedures involved in the operation of the laboratory, including red blood cell and volume reduction, as well as cryopreservation of viable cells for transplantation. Responsibilities will include:  Performing all major procedures required to process, purge, cryopreserve, thaw and prepare cellular therapy products for infusion/transplantation Processing and crytopreserving hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), parathyroid tissue and other cellular therapy products developed in the lab for transplantation Obtaining and sending product samples to labs for testing Ensuring compliance with FDA, NYSDOH regulations, AABB and FACT standards Analyzing tissue using flow cytometery Providing donor and product testing services Performing routine hematology laboratory duties, including staining slides, CBC and differential counts Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual QC on all equipment as required by laboratory SOPs Obtaining and reviewing microbiology and donor infectious disease test results in order to complete donor and product qualification Preparing patient products and documentation for shipment to client hospitals for transplantation Maintaining patient files and records   To qualify, you must be a Medical Technologist (ASCP degree or equivalent) or have a  Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or equivalent (Master’s or other higher degree preferred).  The successful candidate must be a medical technologist licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) or be eligible for New York State Licensure.  At least 1 year of Stem Cell or Cellular Therapy Lab or Blood Bank experience preferred.  Demonstrated competence in aseptic technique, handling blood and/or blood products consistent with the operation of a clinical laboratory and blood bank, along with demonstrated competence with hematology procedures are a must. Superior analytical, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills are essential, as is ability to discuss patient test results with transplant and other physicians. Job Description: Medical Technologist – Full Time   Education:  Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or related Science degree along with the successful completion of an approved formal training program in Medical Technology.   Experience:  Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting with experience processing specimens for analysis or referral.  Experience in the collection of specimens for testing.  Experience with laboratory information systems and related computer programs.   Other Requirements:  ActiveState of Florida license as a Medical Technologist in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Serology.  Registry with either ASCP, AMT, NCA, AAB, or HEW preferred.   Responsibilities: Accurate and reproducible results of routine and complex manual and automated testing as ordered by the clinician or Laboratory Director.  Results are produced in a timely manner. Performs and records scheduled equipment maintenance, troubleshooting of equipment problems, and provides immediate notification to department supervisor in the event of any malfunctions. Recognizes normal and life-threatening results and follows protocol for notification of results to the clinician along with complete documentation on worksheets and in the LIS. Proficient operation of the LIS and other computer related programs.  Keeps current with changes and upgrades to each system. Participates in Proficiency Testing programs along with other departmental quality assurance programs.  Understands the importance of specimen integrity and recognizes any events that may compromise the quality of testing and reporting of results.
