Join us as we work towards meeting and exceeding the growing needs of our diverse communities, further our lifesaving strategic goals in a rapidly changing environment, and expand our impact on the local, national, and global communities we serve.   As a key member of our Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL), you will play an integral role in performing technical procedures involved in the operation of the laboratory, including red blood cell and plasma reduction, CliniMACs CD 34+ cell enrichment, and cryopreservation of viable cells for transplantation.   Responsibilities will include: Performing all major procedures required to prepare cellular therapy products for infusion/transplantation Processing and cryopreserving hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), parathyroid tissue and other cellular therapy products developed in the lab for transplantation Obtaining and sending product samples to labs for testing Ensuring compliance with FDA, NYSDOH regulations, AABB and FACT standards Analyzing tissue using flow cytometery Providing donor and product testing services Performing routine hematology laboratory duties, including staining slides, CBC and differential counts Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual QC on all equipment as required by laboratory SOPs Obtaining and reviewing microbiology and donor infectious disease test results in order to complete donor and product qualification Preparing patient products and documentation for shipment to client hospitals for transplantation Maintaining patient files and records   To qualify, you must be a Medical Technologist (ASCP degree or equivalent) or have a  Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or equivalent (Master’s or other higher degree preferred).  The successful candidate must be a medical technologist licensed by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) or be eligible for New York State Licensure.  At least 1 year of Stem Cell or Cellular Therapy Lab  or Blood Bank experience preferred.  Demonstrated competence in aseptic technique, handling blood and/or blood products consistent with the operation of a clinical laboratory and blood bank, along with demonstrated competence with hematology procedures are a must. Superior analytical, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills are essential, as is ability to discuss patient test results with transplant and other physicians. Job Description: Medical Technologist PRN The Medical Technologist is responsible for the performance of automated, semi-automated and/or manual procedures in the analysis of specimens and demonstrates knowledge of techniques and competence in the fields of bacteriology, parasitology, mycology, hematology, serology, chemistry, immunology, immunohematology and flow cytometry as required for the position.    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:   1.             Accurately perform waived, moderate and/or high complexity laboratory tests specific to the area of assignment. 2.             Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served in the department. 3.             Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs. 4.             Perform quality control and preventive maintenance and assess results for acceptability. 5.             Assure specimen integrity throughout the testing process. 6.             Communicate clinical information to the appropriate individuals in professional manner. 7.             Ensure laboratory instrumentation is functioning appropriately and notify appropriate individuals when repairs are needed. 8.             Management retains the discretion to add to or change the duties of the position at any time.   QUALIFICATIONS:   EDUCATION:                  1.            Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology from an accredited college or university and successful score on a national examination for certification approved by the State Board; OR 2.         Completion of three years of academic study, with a minimum of 90 semester hours at an accredited college or university in a curriculum involving biological or physical science and at least 12 months training at a school of medical technology approved by a national accrediting agency and pass a national examination for certification;             OR 3.         A bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences at an accredited college or university, and at least one year of additional full-time experience or training in the specialty or subspecialty in which he/she performs test(s) and pass a national examination for certification approved by the State board;        OR  4.         Pass an exam for Clinical Laboratory Technologists given by the Department of Health and Human Services.     LICENSURE:                State of Nevada certification or eligible.   EXPERIENCE:              Experience in a large clinical laboratory and children's hospital setting preferred; will consider new graduate of an accredited program of Medical Technology.
