Job Description: Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.  valuates specimens for acceptability for proper testing.  Investigates and documents problems with unacceptable specimens. Organizes workload for maximum efficiency in order to complete tests being performed. Accurately performs tests as requested on specimens received. Verifies accuracy of results before reporting results. Comparing to previous results when possible, verifying with the patient or doctor any changes in medication, etc., as appropriate. Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures. Reports results within time limits established for test procedures. Reports results for stats, abnormals, critical values, and other categories of special requests as defined by laboratory policy. Documents special handling required for test results that meet outlying (established) criteria. Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor. Performs appropriate quality control for the test procedure. Accurately analyzes and evaluates quality control results obtained before accepting and reporting patient test results. Records results obtained for quality control testing as defined in test procedure. Appropriately notifies supervisor of discrepant quality control results. Troubleshoots any problems to determine is it a control issue, an instrument issue, a sample issue or other.   Job Requirements Minimum Education  Associate's degree in a relevant science required.  Bachelor's Degree Preferred.  MLT (ASCP) or equivalent registration or has completed a technician training program in a school accredited/approved by HHS, or MLT eligible under Medicare laboratory regulations. Minimum Work Experience  A minimum of four months' clinical laboratory internship preferred.  1-2 years of previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred. Required Licenses/Certifications  ASCP or equivalent Certification, preferred Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Microbiology, Able to multitask and prioritize.  Computer skills.
