IS manager jobs are supervisory positions that work closely with business executives to coordinate and execute computer-related activities.

Although IS managers plan and install computer hardware and software upgrades, their jobs are not confined to information technology. IS manager jobs bridge the gap between IT and business, and all computer upgrades must pertain to company goals. As such, IS managers need to have a firm understanding of business needs.
Like other information technology jobs, IS managers need to stay up-to-date with the latest technological advances. They should be aware of the costs, benefits and disadvantages of new programming and computer upgrades to analyze whether it is a worthwhile investment for their company.

Other duties include supervising IT professionals within the company and maintaining system security. In order to qualify for information systems management jobs, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer sciences or a related field. Many employers prefer a master’s degree. Before becoming an IS manager, candidates need a few years of experience.
