Rehabilitation directors supervise the staff and oversee the operations of a rehabilitation facility or department. They may be in charge of physical therapy, occupational therapy or speech-language pathology programs and are responsible for ensuring that each patient receives quality care.

Although many rehabilitation directors work in specialty-specific practices, most inpatient rehab director jobs are found in hospitals. In an inpatient setting, rehab directors oversee patients with complex illnesses and injuries who are not ready to be discharged from the hospital. Along with their staff, they help teach patients the skills they need before leaving the hospital. Many patients will continue to receive some sort of outpatient rehabilitative therapy after discharge.

Other than patient population, inpatient rehab director jobs are similar to other rehab director jobs. Their goal is to find ways to improve their department, through developing policies and procedures that produce optimal rehabilitation healthcare services.
