Speech pathologists evaluate, diagnose, and treat language, communication, and swallowing disorders. As a home health speech pathologist, you will be attending patients in their own homes.

Home health SLP jobs differ from typical speech pathology jobs in a few ways. First, you are visiting a patient in his home, which often means he is currently immobile due to a disability or injury. These patients need special care, and attending them in their homes is a way to promote a safe and comfortable environment.

Home health speech pathology jobs have the additional responsibility of educating family members or caretakers in helping the patient toward recovery. Because you will be attending the patient at home, you must be able to independently answer all of their questions and provide sound advice.

In order to be a successful candidate for home health speech pathology jobs, you have to have a master’s in speech language pathology. You may also need a few years of clinical experience before you are ready to treat patients on the road.

The Bureau of Labor and Statistics project speech language pathology jobs to grow 23% by 2020. To see what opportunities are available in this exciting field, go to ADVANCE Healthcare Jobs today!
