The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that within 10 years, the occupational therapy field will have added more than 45,000 jobs. The field as a whole is growing at an astounding rate, but as the Baby Boomer generation ages, there is an increasing demand for dedicated and skilled individuals seeking geriatric occupational therapy jobs.

Geriatric occupational therapy careers can be incredibly rewarding and exciting. Geriatric OTs are responsible for helping patients either gain or maintain independence, confidence and mobility. Patients suffer from a lack of independence often due to strokes, arthritis or Parkinson’s disease. Regardless of what caused their disability, most are eager to return to their former lifestyles. Give patients the freedom their bodies have deprived them of and pursue a career in geriatric occupational therapy.

Many geriatric occupational therapy jobs are relatively autonomous, and most are available either full or part time. Successful candidates will have graduated from an accredited occupational therapy program and have a state-issued occupational therapy license.
