From pediatrics through geriatrics, family practice physician jobs work with patients of all ages. A family practice physician is usually the first doctor patients visit when they have a medical issue.

Generally, family practice physicians treat common illnesses and conditions, including colds, the flu, skin issues, hypertension, allergies and diabetes. They also perform routine screenings, immunizations and physicals. Typical duties include examining and diagnosing patients, creating treatment plans and prescribing medication.  When patients come in with advanced illnesses, family practice physicians may refer them to a specialist for further testing and treatment.

Though they are frequently on call, family practice physician jobs tend to offer more regular hours than other physician positions. Usually, a family practice physician will hold clinic 4 or 5 days a week, and spend an additional day or half day visiting hospitals or nursing homes to round admitted patients.

Family practice physicians are in high demand, particularly in rural areas and small towns. To find family practice physician positions, visit ADVANCE Healthcare Jobs.
