Emergency medicine physician jobs are among the most demanding careers in healthcare. These physicians provide urgent medical care for patients with immediate need. They typically work in emergency rooms, intensive care units and healthcare facilities that offer emergency medical services.

Although many emergency medical physicians see patients with a variety of illnesses, they may choose to specialize in a particular area. Subspecialties include palliative medicine, medical toxicology, wilderness medicine, undersea and hyperbaric medicine, pediatric emergency medicine, sports medicine, emergency medical services and critical care medicine.

Like other doctors, emergency medical physicians record patients’ medical histories, conduct examinations, order and review tests, diagnose illnesses and injuries and determine treatment options. However, they work in a more chaotic environment, receiving a high volume of patients and frequently dealing with life-threatening conditions.

Healthcare professionals in emergency medicine physician positions usually work 8-12 hour shifts and typically have heavy case loads. Due to the nature of emergency departments, physicians must be able to diagnose patients and make medical decisions quickly and accurately.

Doctors who enjoy a fast-paced environment requiring a high level of mental stimulation can find emergency medicine physician jobs right here on the ADVANCE job board. Search by job title, location or employer to find healthcare jobs that meet your criteria.
