Early intervention occupational therapists are occupational therapists devoted to helping children under the age of 3 develop properly. Children experiencing developmental delays or a mental impairment known to cause developmental delays go to occupational therapists to get support with cognitive, communication, and sensory skills.

Early intervention occupational therapy jobs require travel, as a heavy emphasis is placed on working with the child in his natural environment. This way, the child is more comfortable, and therefore more likely to retain information from sessions.

Although occupational therapy jobs are expected to increase most in rehabilitation and orthopedic settings due to an aging population, job prospects for occupational therapists in all fields are expected to grow faster than average. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics projects a 33% growth rate by 2020, and emphasizes that specialized, such as early intervention OT jobs fields are likely to have an even bigger increase.
