The outlook for dietitian jobs is quite healthy. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of dietitians and nutritionists is expected to increase 20 percent from 2010 to 2020, faster than the average for all occupations. Increased interest about the role that food plays in our general health, wellness and disease prevention, along with our aging population, contributes to this growth.

Settings for dietitian positions can range from hospitals and nursing homes, to public health clinics and home health agencies, to physician’s offices, schools and prisons. You can choose to be involved intimately on a patient level at a hospital. Or, you could work with groups and educate them about nutritional practices that are designed to prevent disease and promote good health. Management-level dietitians can plan large-scale meals and work in schools and healthcare facilities. And, consultant dietitians can work in healthcare facilities or in their own private practices.
