Job Description:   Clinical/Medical Technologist I Veterinary Clinical Sciences College of Veterinary Medicine   Position Description: Clinical/Medical Technologist 1 needed to work in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Clinical Pathology Laboratory at Washington State University. The technologist will rotate through the hematology, chemistry, and other (coagulation, urinalysis, cytology preparation) sections of the hospital laboratory on a routine basis.   Duties: Perform clinical diagnostic laboratory tests on animal samples; record and evaluate test results; contact appropriate personnel for tests with unusual or critical findings. Assure that quality control requirements are met to validate test results, record data as part of a quality assurance program. Assist in the development and evaluation of new procedures. Prepare and verify the quality of reagents, standards, and control samples. Utilize institution-based computer system for test result entry and data acquisition. Calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine and emergency preventative maintenance to laboratory instruments and related equipment.   Work schedule, Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional emergency response on evenings and weekends. Dental assistants help dentists and dental hygienists care for patients. Their duties range from basic patient care to administrative tasks and can vary depending on state.  

Some of the patient care tasks included in dental assistant jobs may include making the patient comfortable, holding suction hoses and teach patients about good dental hygiene. They may assist dentists and hygienists by preparing treatment areas, sterilizing equipment and passing instruments during dental procedures. Administrative duties, such as maintaining dental records, scheduling appointments and billing are often assigned to dental assistants.

Depending on the state in which a dental assistant practices, they may also be able to do more advanced work, including coronal polishing, sealant application, fluoride application and topical anesthetics application.  

To qualify for dental assistant positions, you must complete either a 1 year certification program or a 2 year associate’s program. Some states require additional certification.
