Community training specialist positions provide members of a community with pre-employment training. Typically, they work with people who have physical or developmental disabilities.

Most community training specialist jobs are not for profit positions. They usually hold workshops in community based settings at volunteer sites. Their role is to help prepare people with disabilities to enter the workforce. Training may include cashier training, stock management, accounting, and customer service, among other job related activities.

Although enhancing vocational competence is the main goal of community training specialist jobs, these positions serve people with disabilities in numerous ways. Pre-employment training can help people with disabilities build self-confidence and adjust easier to real work scenarios. Furthermore, community training specialists advocate for the employment of people with disabilities and work to promote public reception.

To qualify for community training specialist positions, candidates typically need a bachelor’s degree. Most training will be provided on the job, but candidates must have excellent communication skills.
