Clinical resource coordinators make sure a healthcare facility’s available resources are being used properly. Acting as a liaison between patients, physicians and other parties, clinical resource coordinators facilitate the delivery of healthcare services.

In order to coordinate patient care services, clinical resource coordinators manage cases by assessing the severity of patients’ illnesses and determining treatment plans. After treatment, coordinators plan for patients’ discharges and assist them with all of their post-discharge needs. Post-discharge duties can range from referring patients to another doctor or coordinating hospital-to-hospital transfers, to recommending other types of services. Through it all, clinical resource coordinators are responsible for ensuring that patients receive the most appropriate and cost-effective care.

Experienced RNs with case management experience will find success in clinical resource coordinator jobs. Like other nursing jobs, clinical resource coordinator jobs usually include long, irregular hours with night, weekend and holiday shifts.
