Job Description: Echocardiographer Position Summary:  This position supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke's Medical Center of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person.  Performs echocardiograms, stress tests and other diagnostic tests and procedures in accordance with established procedures for patients from adolescent through geriatric.  Responsible for maintaining expert technical and patient care skills and provide quality diagnostic results.  Responsible for performance improvement activities, supply/inventory management, data and charge entry data preparation for physician interpretation.  When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Licensure/Certification/Registration:  BCLS. Registered Adult Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or registry eligible within one year of date of hire required. Registered Pediatric Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer or registry eligible within one year of date of hire preferred.   CCI may be considered.   Education:  Successful completion of an AMA/ACCA approved training program.   Experience:  Minimum one year recent hospital or clinical experience preferred. Adult experience required. Pediatric experience preferred.   Special Qualifications:  Knowledge and skills in all areas of echocardiography.  Basic knowledge of 12 lead EKG interpretations, basic computer skills.  Communicates positively and professionally with all customers.  Provides safe care displays appropriate judgment and problem solving skills.  Demonstrates good organizational and technical skills.  Medical terminology.  Basic keyboard and computer skills.   Degree of supervision required:  Involves general guidance and direction by the Director of Cardiac Testing/Clinical Coordinator.  Employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.

Job Description: Echocardiographer Tech PRN SPECIFIC ELEMENTS AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS* 1.* Performs accurate analysis of all cardiac anatomy and assimilates appropriate data necessary for           interpretation of study and assesses the same for the staff. 2.* Utilizes appropriate communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, physicians and staff. 3.* Assists the physician as needed during procedures and monitors physiological parameters during            procedures. 4.* Demonstrates proficiency in operating and troubleshooting equipment in the Echo Lab. 5.* Performs job to ensure quality care is provided within defined area of accountability. 6.* Safely transports Echo machine to patient room to perform Echocardiogram or transports patients to department as necessary. 7.* Takes call after regular hours. 8. Restocks work areas with necessary supplies.  Keeps work areas clean and orderly to promote patient          safety. 9. Participates actively in continuing education and assists in education of new staff as requested. 10. Communicate effectively with Department Leader, Clinical Coordinator, staff members and physicians and serves as a liaison to promote interdepartmental relationships. 11. Initiates and documents patient teaching including family and/or significant others.  Uses appropriate patient education documentation modality. * THOSE SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS WITH AN (*) ARE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONSIDERED NECESSARY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS JOB.EXPERIENCE Preferred -Two Years Echo experience. EDUCATION Required -Graduate of an accredited program in Echo/Vascular/Cardiac Sonography. Will have confirmation letter from ARDMS with test date by the first anniversary date of employment. Preferred -Registered Diagnostic Sonographer.

Provides a quantitative comparison for evaluation of the stability, improvement, and deterioration of cardiac disease. Helps determine the need for other more complicated invasive procedures. Communicates results to physicians and responds to questions and concerns. Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.  Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities. Orients and mentors new staff members. Assists with transporting patients. Orients and mentors staff. Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Job qualifications and requirements include:   Graduate of a program in Echocardiography approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association or documented equivalent education, experience and training. Current RCT license Previous experience performing echocardiography procedures preferred. Current Certification in Basic Life Support Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
