Benefits specialists are the point of contact for benefits issues in a company’s HR department. Depending on the size of the company, some benefits specialists handle only a particular group of benefits, while others may handle all benefits the company offers, including medical, dental, vision, disability, pension and 401k.

Usually, benefits specialists are the people who get benefits for a company. They work with the company, government and healthcare providers to negotiate rates and secure the best benefits packages.

Benefits specialists frequently work with new employees, providing a company orientation and explaining their benefit options. However, they are available to all employees when benefits-related issues or concerns arise. Because they are the go-to person for benefits problems, they have to stay up-to-date with changing federal and state regulations, and ensure the company is in compliance with them. As such, people seeking benefits specialist jobs should have excellent communication skills.

Outside of benefits issues, professionals with benefits specialist jobs may also have hiring responsibilities. Some benefits specialists are responsible for interpreting cost and job analysis, writing job descriptions, deciding salaries and maintaining employee handbooks.

Benefits specialists are needed in all fields. You can find benefits specialist positions available in healthcare right here on the ADVANCE job board. Search by location, job title or employer to find the right match.
