Job Duties & Essential Functions: Supervise staff at ambulatory care site Works closely with Department Administrator on all human resource related tasks including but not limited to recruitment, training, staff development, performance program evaluations, performance improvement plans, clinical competencies and re-certifications Triage patient phone calls. Review lab reports and report abnormal results to physicians. Manage all operational aspects of the outpatient clinic, including monitoring patient related statistics, coordinating room utilization, developing and implementing standardized procedures and practices, following all DOH. JCAHO, HIPAA AND OSHA standards. Update policies and procedures to meet changing needs of department, physicians, and patients. Perform quality improvement projects. Attend meetings and related training sessions. Provide physicians and Physician Assistants with nursing assistance as needed. Perform post-operative care/suture removal. Act as liaison and problem solver between physician, staff, and patients. Follow up on and rectify problems reported on by staff, physicians, and patients. Prepare reports related to fiscal, operational issues, or patient care as directed by Department Administrator. Represent department on committees, such as Ambulatory Care Committee, as needed. All other duties as assigned   Required Education & Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Registered Nurse (RN) licensed to practice in New York State. Five (5) years of Cardiology nursing experience with at least three (3) years of supervisory or administrative experience. Advanced practice nurses are registered nurses with a post-graduate education. Working in advanced practice nurse jobs allows nurses to experience more autonomy. Unlike RNs, advanced practice nurses are licensed to both diagnose and treat patients. In a time in which primary care physicians are a rarity, advanced practice nurses are becoming a viable resource for primary care.

There are 4 types of advanced practice nurse jobs: nurse anesthetists, certified nurse midwives, clinical nurse specialists and nurse practitioners. Many advanced practice nurses have a sub-specialty and treat a specific group or population.

Although advanced practice nurses share many of the same responsibilities with physicians, the practice is not completely independent. In many facilities, advanced practice nurses work with other healthcare providers to deliver care. However, advanced practice nursing is gaining more autonomy, and in 25 states, nurse practitioners are licensed to operate their own practices.
