PhD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN, president of the American Nurses Association (ANA). “Nurses will see immediately any firsthand consequences of turning back the clock on the ACA for their patients.” ANA, described as the “premier organization” representing the interests of nearly 3.6 million registered nurses in America, advocates for nurses and for the betterment of healthcare. The organization’s mission is to advance the nursing profession to improve health for all. “Access to healthcare for all that is affordable, equitable, integrated and innovative has been a cornerstone of ANA’s mission for decades,” explained Cipriano. “While we recognize the need to constantly evolve our healthcare delivery system, repealing the Affordable Care Act would be a step backward in our fight for a healthier America.” ANA believes that repealing the ACA would undermine the nation’s health, because it will remove an affordable healthcare option for many Americans. “We believe it is essential to preserve the provisions of the ACA that have helped ensure millions of Americans have access to needed care that addresses their health needs,” she added. Despite the possibility of repeal and reform, ANA is ready to work with Trump and his administration to address the country’s health challenges, while also protecting and promoting quality healthcare for all Americans. Both Loughran and Cipriano agreed nurses are at the forefront of healthcare reform annd should be prepared for where healthcare goes in the upcoming months. Already the impact of the new presidency is being felt throughout the country; the Senate has begun the process to repeal the Affordable Care Act with a vote of 51 to 48, reports The Huffingron Post. With repeal already on the horizon and no set alternative plan in place, healthcare professionals need to be diligent. Nurses see healthcare changes firsthand, not just in their own lives but in the lives of their patients, and must be prepared to educate and care for Americans going forward.
